Books Reviews

I try to read a little bit every day, when my children permit me to do so.  I love to read cookbooks and other books on home entertaining.  They're the kind of books that you can pick up and put down, and it doesn't really matter if you're in the middle of a chapter -- pretty much the only kind of reading that fits into my life schedule, besides books like Pat The Bunny or Brown Bear, at the moment.  Someday I'll return to my love of the Bronte sisters and other 19th century novels...quite a jump from the book I just finished, White Trash Gatherings:  From Scratch Cooking For Down Home Entertaining, by Kendra Baily Morris.

I was sold at the name alone, and I have to admit that I quite enjoyed it.  I think that everyone can identify with some aspect of the book.  Deep down, we all love casual down home get togethers, good eats, good company, paper plates, and plastic cutlary. Although many of the recipes and ideas aren't what I would use for entertaining, I will try some of them on my own family.  Several of the folk remedies presented in this book also sound worthy of trying.
